Innovation Hub 4.0 Objectives

With the creation of the Innovation Hub 4.0, ÉTS wants to establish an academic Hub for professors and researchers involved in Industry 4.0 technologies. One of the objectives of the Hub is to develop an integrated research and education program in order to address the needs of Industry 4.0.

Since the creation of  Aerospace 4.0, various projects have seen the daylight such as:

  • Siemens Chair on Industry 4.0 (3 projects on multidisciplinary design, manufacturing and supply chain, involving 15 professors in 3 departments);

  • MACHFab 4.0 for SMEs (with Aéro Montréal);

  • Maturity Index Aero 4.0  (with Hamburg Aviation);

  • CAPE (Center for Aerospace Professional Education, with McGill) courses and lecture series on Industry 4.0.

Objectives

  • Building on existing strengths of ÉTS: professors and projects;

  • Implementation of Industry 4.0 with a focus on the total enterprise: marketing, engineering, factory, customers, supply chain, etc.;

  • Leverage the established link with the Next Generation Manufacturing (NGM) Canada super-cluster;

  • Participate in the NSERC Strategic Network HI-AM, headed by the University of Waterloo, and reach out to others academic national and international partners;

  • Participate in the ADRIQ Network of Industrial 4.0  Expertise (RCEI4.0);

  • Proceed with the creation of NSERC Chairs on PLM, IoT and Design 4.0;

  • Expand the NUMÉRIX Laboratory for the virtual enterprise through the integration of simulation software;

  • Organize annual conferences and summer school focused on Industry 4.0;

  • Develop professional courses and academic programs to prepare tomorrow highly qualified personnel;

  • Recruitment of professors in Advanced Manufacturing 4.0 and investing in the Additive Manufacturing (AM) laboratory and equipment.

The  Hub  will  leverage  the  operational  experience  of  AÉROÉTS and Aerospace  4.0. Since the creation of AÉROÉTS in 2010, research funding has tripled and the number of master’s students has increased five-fold.
